I wrote this sometime in summer 2011.
"The space inside our hearts - the emptiness, the need, the longing for more than what is in us and more than what we have - can be compared to an empty cup. We try to fill this cup with things that just don't satisfy us - marriage, job positions, money, material blessings, drugs, alcohol... the list goes on. There also seems to be another "cup" inside our hearts. This cup is to be filled with romance and a lover, in mariage. The first cup is to be filled with God Himself, who pours Himself into our lives and can give us more in Him than we could ever dream of or think possible. He is also "the Lover of our souls"... so why couldn't He fill both cups? True, there are some aspects of being with an earthly lover that are not the same as being with God. But the more time we spend filling the cup that only God can fill and satisfy - filling it with God Himself - we will likely find that the other cup is not as important, that God can be our all-in[-all] and that we don't need an earthly lover. It is an extra blessing, but not a requirement."
